The Best Doggy Halloween Costume Contest in Fort Greene Brooklyn was on Fire This Year with More Creative and Adorable Costumes than Ever Before!
Sure, The Annual Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade might be the “big kahuna” of the doggy Halloween circuit in New York City. But, for those of us who want to avoid the crowds and #waglikelocals head over to beautiful Fort Greene Park for the Fort Greene Park Users and Pets Society (PUPS)’s annual PuPkin parade to witness the real-deal, best dog Halloween contest in all of Brooklyn.
Hold on to your kibble and bits! Because this year, to celebrate all that is good about dogs in costumes, we are awarding our first annual PetYen Top 3 Gold, Silver and Bronze medals to our favorite contenders of this year’s event!
Bronze Medalist: The Hibachi Chihuahua (Macaroon)
When creativity and adorableness collide, you get Macaroon the chihuahua dressed up as a hibachi grill! This nine year Tompkins Square Park Halloween veteran brought his A game to Brooklyn and delighted the crowd with his charm and good taste.
Silver Medalist: Harley The Paw Reader
Harley, the two-year-old bulldog from Marine Park and his mom are serious contenders each year (and something like minor celebrities on the NYC doggy Halloween circuit). Last year Harley was the Good Humor Ice Cream truck (which you might have seen all over social media!), and this year his mom and his French bulldog brother won the Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade!!
Gold Medalist: Eleven and Her Waffle Stash
The duo of Emmy and Remy brought smiles to everyone’s faces with their Stranger Things getup. When dogs (mainly pugs) and children (especially ones as cute as Emmy) dress up together, it’s a win-win for everyone! Congratulations Remy and Emmy for winning our first annual PetYen picks of the best from the Great PuPkin Dog Costume Contest of 2017!
And our 7 Runners Up! (Because we Just Couldn’t Resist)
This Frenchie looks remarkably composed with the weight of an entire city on his back (and a mother who has mysteriously turned into a fire-breathing monster)!
Coqui/Shaggy, the skateboarding Shihtzu, isn’t clowning around when it comes to scaring the competition away.
Michael J. Fox has some serious competition this year because “Marty, I need 1.21 gigawatts!” never sounded so good or looked so darn cute!
Since we’re an NYC based website, we had to honor one of our own! Bill would have been pleased to see this handsome boy portray his likeness.
While we usually prefer Thin Mints, we’d love a couple of licks from this delicious looking Samoa!
A bulldog with cow ears… Hello? And with a mug like that, we think he’s making a pretty good argument. Chicken rules!
We picked this costume for two reasons. First, in honor of the valuable life lessons we learned on Sesame Street, of self-awareness, love, and empathy, which are more critical today than ever before! Plus, this wheaten terrier is pulling it off in a big (no pun intended) way.
So that’s our round-up from the Great PuPkin event! As always we had the best time, and to be honest, every pup was a winner (because, undeniably, puppies in costumes still kill it!). Thank you to all the great contestants and their creative, inspiring, loving, paw-rents who went the extra mile to make this contest super fun and happy!
